Some of this year's best sports photography

From hurling in the rain to the sadness of a minute’s silence, here are some of this year’s best sporting shots.

THE PRESS PHOTOGRAPHERS Association of Ireland Awards 2013 took place last night and some of best pictures involved sporting events.

Ryan Byrne of INPHO won the top prize in the Sports (Action) category for this great shot of Ryan O’Dwyer and Dillon Mulligan with Darren Nolan and Garrett Sinnott during the Leinster Club Senior Hurling Championship Quarter-Final between Kilmacud Crokes and Oulart-the-Ballagh in November 2012:

INPHO also picked up second place with Donnall Farmer’s Lucky Horse Shoes which shows a horse making his way to the start line at Navan racecourse:
